説明

このコレクションには、穏やかな朝から活気あふれる昼や夜まで、さまざまな視点や時間帯から捉えたアテネの音を収録した9つの長尺音源が収められています。アテネのサウンドスケープのあらゆるニュアンスを捉えるため、低ノイズのノイマン製マイクとサウンド・デバイス製レコーダーを使用し、各8分から19分の長尺テイクを収録し、合計2時間以上の音源を収録しました。

録音場所は、3階建ての建物の2階にある屋上でした。その建物は、交通量のほとんどないごく狭い通りを見下ろす位置にあり、上空からある程度の距離を置いて街の音を録音することができました。交通音、レストラン、バー、建設工事の音、鳥のさえずり――夕方の録音では遠くでコオロギの鳴き声が聞こえ、日中の録音では隣のアパートのエアコンの稼働音が聞こえるものもあります。録音のほとんどは一般的な都市の雰囲気を表現するために使用できますが、一部のテイクには、ギリシャの首都特有のサウンドスケープを特徴づける、ギリシャ風の「ワラ」や教会の音、セミの鳴き声といった地域特有の音が含まれています。
