Wendland, also known as Elbtalaue, is a picturesque rural and agricultural region in northern Germany, located along the banks of the Elbe River. The Wendland sound collection diverges from pure nature recordings by portraying an authentic auditory depiction of the present-day soundscape of the region, encompassing elements such as distant car noises, ongoing farm activities, and other human-made sounds that are currently audible in the area.
During the recording, it was the beginning of autumn, accompanied by a moderate to strong breeze that produced rustling sounds from the leaves and the wind brushing through the nearby bushes and trees. Some of the recordings feature the melodic chirping of birds and the buzzing of flying insects during daylight hours, while others capture the presence of agricultural equipment and occasional flocks of geese migrating southwards.
Small town atmospheres include bustling markets, lively restaurants, and the sounds of traffic. From a bench positioned beside cars and from the vantage point of a nearby hill, the distant ambiences were captured.
